Commotion on Rockstar Supernova

Posted by tlrc on August 30, 2006

Tonight on Rockstar Supernova, we are being served a course of ancient history that would have been better served if it had stayed buried. At this point, we all couldn’t care less about Dilana’s antics. Been there, done that, can we please, please, move on? But that was not what the commotion was about tonight. Read on.

The performance show is jump started with a 10,000 volts performance by Lukas Rossi with a total rearrangement of Nirvana’s classic “Lithium”. To say that Lukas killed it would be an understatement. He was all over the place, singing in a clear voice and enunciating every word with just the right tone, the right emotion, the right passion. It wasn’t over the top and crazy. It was brilliant and passionate as only he can deliver.

Only Lukas can carry that off with such genius ability. His flair for rearrangements speaks for themselves. From Rebel Yell to Bittersweet Symphony, from Creep to All the things that I’ve done, to name a few, his acute sense of how to make a song fit ‘him’ is astounding. He deserved a standing ovation and he got it.

Hell he even got Jason Newsted ‘jumping’ in approval during the performance. Let’s face it: Jason is not the jumping type. Not by a long shot! As for Tommy Lee, well he loved him. He was has, always will. Everyone loved him. Oh and did I mention he was absolutely gorgeous? But that was not what the commotion I was about talking about either.
“Freakin’ dynamite man -  Jason Newsted”

Next up is Magni with a smart rendition of “I alone by Live

I must admit that at first, I thought his lower register was barely audible, but when he kicked it up, man it was pretty cool. I mean, it can’t have been easy to follow Lukas after all the praise he just received both from the band and the audience. But he did well. Not crazy about the song and that was not giving him the chance to use the same level of energy as Lukas and that didn’t help either. But, the band liked it. I liked it too. No commotion here either.

Next up is Ryan with “Clocks” by Coldplay

If we strike off the pitch problem he had tonight, the performance was very high energy. Between throwing his piano bench away, jumping on his instrument, actually rubbing himself on it, the Dark Horse pulled all the stuff. It was a very good performance. Dave liked it, Jason not so much, Gilby said it was a good performance that he was great but nothing more.

Next is Storm performing “Bring me to life” from Evanescence.

Let’s just say that I will not extend on the subject tonight. I love Storm I really am a fan but I can’t say anything good about this performance tonight. Except that she was very pretty, as usual and high octane. Oh and yes, Toby was there. Thank God!

Next followed Toby with “Rebel Yell” by Billy Idol

Another hard performance to top. We all remember how Lukas had killed that one on the first week. But wow, he really pulled it off. From my perspective, Toby is more of a cheerleader than a performer. But he has a great voice, a decent amount of charisma and he loves to play: play tricks, play with the audience. Cool.

And finally, Dilana with “Mother Mother” by Tracy Bonaham

She did an amazing job! Dilana is a very charismatic persona and her beauty cross over the screen. Like her or not, you can’t help but to watch her. Her long rainbow dreads flying all over while she played the guitar furiously or while she ran around the stage. Very powerful. But the band thought it best to bring back the drama in parallel to her performance. “How does it feel to perform after what happened”…I mean Geez, was that really necessary?

All and all, Lukas should be coming out on top tonight. But at the end of tonight’s show, he was in the bottom 3.

And why is that do you ask? Because the CBS server was not accepting votes for Lukas for a period of about an hour after the show ended.

I alone received numerous error messages within the first hour. It went through fine when I tried to give a vote to Storm and a few other rockers.  No problem. As a result, there is a good chance Lukas will end up in the bottom 3. I’m not worried one bit because we all know he is good enough to pull himself out of this, he said so himself. What I am objecting about is the blotch on his track record. I guess even rock music reality TV is bound to have it fair share of drama. Holy drama, there will be no end to this. Must be a ratings thing.

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s result show. The countdown to the final show has begun!
